Pennant Bowls

In summer (from October to March inclusive), the club enters a number of teams into the Bowls SA Metropolitan Pennant competition. This is an inter-club competition, played against other clubs within our metro region. Our Pennant teams range from Division One right through to the bottom division, so there is a place for bowlers of all capabilities.

Mens’ Pennant games are played on Wednesday afternoons and Ladies’ Pennant games on Thursday mornings, while Saturday Pennant Bowls are played as an open gender afternoon competition.

Teams for each week are selected based on merit and to ensure an even number of games per member.  The club endeavours to enter the appropriate number of teams each season to ensure that all members get to play regularly and as often as they wish.  When necessary however a rotation policy is applied to ensure that no member misses out on playing regularly.

Social Bowls

  1. Social Night Bowls

The club offers social Night Bowls on Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the daylight saving period (October to March).  Night Bowls are an excellent opportunity to learn to play lawn bowls and/or to play with friends and work colleagues while socialising.  The cost is $8 per person per night but for new players the first night is free.  Members pay $6 per night. A sausage and burger sizzle is available, while the bar is open throughout the course of the night.  Recently purchased, modern club bowls are available for use at no extra charge.

On both Tuesday and Thursday evenings the bar opens at 6pm, with bowling commencing at 7pm.  The evening concludes around 9.30 pm.

Tuesday Night Bowls is played as a pairs competition, but you do not need to come out with a partner, if you prefer not to.   Instead, most entries are treated as “individual entries” with players being paired (by the organiser) with a new partner each week (normally).  This adds to the fun of the evening.  There is no weekly commitment for Tuesday Night Bowls, but rather come as often as you wish.  If possible please register beforehand each week that you wish to play (refer contact details below).

Thursday Night is our true “Night Owls” competition, for teams of three.  Once registered you are required to field a team each week, although the members of the team can vary.  We will do our best to accommodate people who are looking to join a team or who require an extra person or two to make up a team.

  1. Winter Social Bowls

Social bowls are played throughout the non-pennant season (April to August), on Thursday and Saturday afternoons. The format varies, but individual entries are always welcomed.

Other Bowling Competitions

Besides Pennant Bowls and the Social Bowling competitions described above, there are many other opportunities to play competitive bowls across the year, including during the Pennant season.  These include:

  • The Kensington Marryatville Club Championships – held each year, across eight different categories, including singles and pairs, and handicap singles and consistency.
  • Several one-off team competition days hosted by the Kensington Marryatville club, including a Ladies Gala Day and a Cosmos Fours competition. There is prize money to be won, lunch is normally provided and a fun time to be had.
  • Competition days hosted by other bowling clubs
  • State championships
  • The Taylor Cup series, an open gender, 10-a-side competition, played across all four disciplines (singles, pairs, triples and fours), on Sunday evenings.

Keep an eye on our Events section on the Home page for information on up-coming competitions.
