Wednesday: All teams played at home for the last of the minor rounds.

  • Division 2 vs Walkerville. Won 133 to 96.

Congratulations to the team who lost only one game during the season. Come out and cheer them on as they play the first final at home on Wednesday against Salisbury.

  • Division 3 vs Toorak Burnside. Lost 94 to 96.
Division 4 vs Walkerville. Lost 53 to 70.

Thursday:

Congratulations to the Division 1 team who had a wonderful win against Somerton at Somerton on a day that was very challenging for bowling. The score was 76 to 50 with all rinks getting up. Thank you to everyone who came out to support us and cheer us to victory your enthusiasm drowned out the Somerton supporters. It was greatly appreciated by us all. Onwards now to the grand final and Premier League for season 24/25. The grand final is March 28 against Somerton or Modbury. The venue is to be advised. We look forward to the Kensi cheer squad coming out again. Next week we have no game so will be a practice week.

Saturday:

Our division 3 team headed to Playford for the first semi final feeling reasonably confident after a solid finish to the minor round. It wasn’t to be and unfortunately Playford at home were too good. The final score was 56 to 78. Tomorrow the team wakes up to do it all again this time against Walkerville at home. The match begins at 1pm. Come out Kensi members, family and friends and support them by cheering loudly. Look forward to seeing many of you in the blue and gold.

AGM, Friday May 10, 2024

The AGM will be held on Friday May 10 beginning at 5pm. The current committee is keen to attract new and enthusiastic members. Heather will post nomination forms on the club noticeboard. Oliver intends to stand down as Treasurer after 2 years. I thank him for his work and efficiency in organising and streamlining the Bowling account, which will make for a smooth transition to a new Treasurer. Heather Garnett is considering standing down as Secretary after 3 years.

End of Season Celebration and Presentation: Friday April 5th

There will be a Members draw at 6.30 pm followed by the club’s End of Season Celebration dinner. Vegan meals will be made available on request. The cost of the night will be $25 each which will also include a drink voucher.

A list for people to write their names down on is up in the clubhouse from today, March 16th. Names are required to be on the list no later than March 31st, no exceptions.

Helpers Team 2 have been rostered to help - it would be appreciated if some Committee members would also be able to assist on the night as Team 2 is a little down in numbers. Thank You.

Feedback to MBA from Kensington Marryatville Bowling Club

Below is the summary of feedback, that has been forwarded to MBA, gained from interested members. Thank you again.

What do you like about the current competition?

  • Lower division players enjoy meeting different people without too much travel involved.
  • Women enjoy the single gender on Thursday.
  • Playing teams twice as the current home and away program enables.
  • Open gender on Saturday.
  • Thursday morning 10 am start suits Adelaide’s hot summer climate.
  • Approximately 50% thought the length of the season was fine.
  • Higher division players enjoy the multiple formats.

What don’t you like about the current competition?

  • Starts at lunchtime is too late - games are played in the hottest part of the day often until 5pm. This is a WHS issue for all players.
  • Game goes on too long need to make it quicker or shorten game. Game of 4 too long wait to next bowl. The fours format is slow and boring. We need value in the number of bowls and time spent in a day at bowls. Somehow keep 21 ends but have greater time restrictions.
  • Tea breaks aren’t necessary – have a 10-minute break after 11 ends as the women do.
  • Thursday opportunity for Premier and Division 1 to replay matches has been taken away because Tuesday didn’t work and should be reinstated because it could make a difference to the pennant ladder.

What suggestions do you have to amend the current conditions of play?

  • Align starting times for Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to 10am. It is a WHS issue. Temperature of synthetic greens possibly much hotter than forecasted temperatures.
  • Play Wednesday pennants as a twilight competition, 6pm start.
  • Encourage greater collaboration by clubs to allow spare players to form combined teams.
  • No multiple formats below Division 2 on Wednesday.
  • Greens open for roll up half an hour before play.
  • Drawing of the card could be 15 minutes later.
  • Maximum temperatures to be consistent for all days. Suggested 36. Measurement of temperatures could be more localised therefore more accurate for each club.
  • Remove the break or have shorter 10-minute breaks like the women on Thursday.
  • Where permits are issued, they are for the player to be at one club only for the season.

What new suggestions do you have to improve the competition?

  • A Spring and an Autumn competition - 2 competitions.
  • More twilight games as a strategy to encourage younger people and those working.
  • Introduce multiple formats to Thursday and Saturday.
  • Wednesday to become open gender.
  • 2 bowl triples will speed up the game therefore finishing earlier, perhaps attract younger players and help accommodate diminishing numbers (Division 3 women for example).
  • Twilight matches BPL style to attract younger players.
  • Two shorter seasons. Season 1 ending in week 2 of December. Season 2 beginning mid-January and finishing in early April. Finals to be played. With 10 teams per division have a 9-match competition before Christmas break and then a separate 9 game competition after the Christmas break.
  • Change to 2 bowl triples for a quicker game.
  • A twilight competition mid-week.
  • Play into April when grass greens are at their peak.
