Message From the President

Metropolitan Bowls Association Presidents Meeting

The meeting was held at Edwardstown Bowling Club on Sunday January 21. Under the MBA constitution one of the objectives is to promote, administer and advance the game of bowls within the defined area of the Association. As part of the above clause each club has been invited to discuss and provide feedback. Yes, it sounds like Ground Hog Day or déjà vu and here we go again. As frustrating as it may be to hear the same year after year if we don’t take action to have our voices heard change will never happen.

Questions for discussion by members are:

  • What do they like about the current competition?
  • What don’t they like about the current competition?
  • What suggestions do they have to amend current conditions of play?
  • What new suggestions do they have to improve the competition.

I have published the questions to give members time to consider feedback. What I am proposing is that there is a meeting of members before the season concludes to discuss, consult and collate feedback that provides a submission from our club’s perspective to MBA.

In other business during the meeting, we were reminded about the importance of player management to ensure eligibility as finals are approaching. There has been talk of changes to the number of players in Premier League sides. At this stage there will be no change from the current 16 players to 12, however the topic may continue to be discussed. Concern was expressed at the possible impact on clubs striving for promotion of their top teams from lower divisions especially Divisions 3 and 4.

Numbers for Thursday competitions is positive. It was emphasised however that numbers needed to be maintained to keep the competition viable. The greatest impact would be on Division 3. Scorecards need to be filled even if games are not played because they are regarded as the official record. Quick processing of results following match day using mobile phones is being encouraged. Home side is of course responsible for entering results.

Results

Wednesday: All teams played away. It wasn’t a great week for the teams but plenty of bowls yet to be played.

  • Division 2 vs Modbury at Modbury. Defeated 84 to 112.
  • Division 3 vs Trinity Gardens at Trinity Gardens. Defeated 94 to 117.

  • Division 2 vs Payneham at Payneham. Defeated 38 to 85.
