Bowls Newsletter - 17/12/23
It was fantastic to see so many of you on Friday night for our Christmas dinner.
Following the Members draw and rink of the week the evening swung into Christmas beginning with Hot Gospel choir singing some well-known carols and other favourites. The choir sings in many venues across Adelaide during the Christmas season so thank you Jenny Petersen for organizing them to spend time at the club.
Ken Mason’s thorough work in planning the meal certainly paid off. Thank you to the group including Liz, Tania, Neville and Jeanette for setting up on Friday morning and then it was over to Ken and his family who did a magnificent job on the night. They were a great team along with Tija, Sharyn and Vicky in the kitchen. Getting 100 plus hot mains out in a timely fashion was appreciated by everyone. Alistair was back again managing the bar in his usual calm way.
Neville organized a wonderful raffle and auction for which he spent months in the making. Raffle ticket sales continued until the last minute. We are grateful to our sponsors and members who generously donated prizes to make the raffle and auction such a success. Neither would have been such successful fund raisers without the support of members who sold and purchased tickets. Neville reported that we have raised over $5000. Great work!
Thank you to Doug for his work as raffle master and auctioneer. He kept us entertained and didn’t miss a beat when Father Christmas (aka Michael Ward) interjected with some rather risqué Christmas cheer. Pip Malone and elves kept the tempo of the music attuned to the audience and by 9pm Club Kookaburra was going off.
A and B Greens will be closed on January 4 for maintenance. C Green will be top dressed during the break therefore will be unavailable for 3 weeks.
Wednesday: All teams played at away.
Thursday: Both teams played away.
Saturday: One team played at home and the others away.
Please note that Monday coaching will cease from now. Please contact Alan Lambert on 0422606175 if you wish to pursue further support for your game.
Happy Hour usual guests are invited to Happy Hour this Wednesday night 20th, which will be held in conjunction with a bowling hire being held that night.

As we sign off from 2023, I wish each of you and your families a safe and happy Christmas and New Year. Rest, relax and recuperate in readiness to get back onto the greens in earnest for the second half of the season.
If anyone is using the original program for all the Pennant bowls games for the 2023/2024 season can you please disregard this. The new bowls schedule program to be followed is located on the noticeboard in the clubhouse.
Our last roll for 2023 was filled with fun and Christmas cheer! Many teams dressed for the occasion. Our dress up winners were ‘Scotty and his Angels’ followed by our ‘Christmas Stars’. We had a monster raffle (donations from players) and all sorted and wrapped by Susie! It was a great success.
Thanks to everyone who voted for us in the Bowls SA Night Owls video comp. Millicent Bowls Club we’re the winners.
