Messages From the President

State Fours and Ladies Day

Planning and preparation for the events is progressing well. Thank you to everyone who has agreed to volunteers for the events. Both should be great for the club.

Currently a very healthy number of 28 teams of women has nominated for the Gala Day on Monday November 27. It promises to be an enjoyable day where pink reigns supreme as we channel our inner Barbie (and Ken). Spectators most welcome.

Raffle Books

The raffle is a major fundraiser for the club so please do your best to sell your tickets. With three weeks left for sales opportunities it is important that we get out and make the most of the time left. Promote the many great prizes with sales. If you have books with unsold tickets sitting around, please bring them and the money in asap for redistribution. They can be left in a sealed envelope with your name on in the blue box.

Food Safety

Continues to be a talking point due to changes in legislation regarding food handling. Thank you to those of you who have spent a few minutes to complete the assessment. Due to a request for support I am offering a session on Wednesday November 22 at 3pm. Anyone else requiring support is welcome to join us.

The action required by the club is that all members who volunteer in any way involving food need to complete a course that demonstrates the knowledge and skills to handle potentially dangerous food. From December 8, 2023, enforcement of the new requirements will commence so I’m hoping that by then most people involved in food handling will have completed the course.

I have included a link to an approved online course that is available free of charge. A certificate is generated immediately on successful completion.

Secondly

The club needs to nominate Food Safety Supervisors. Ideally at least 2 would be preferable. Anyone interested please contact me. There is a mandatory requirement that all food handlers are supervised by a fully trained and qualified Food Safety Supervisor. Supervisors are to hold a Nationally accredited certificate from a Registered Training Organisation.

Finally

Please forward a copy of your certificate to KMBC secretary Heather Garnett to be filed in club records. Email to kensiclub.bowls@gmail.com

Committee Vacancy

A vacancy on the Bowls Committee has become available due to the resignation of a member. If anyone is interested in finding out more about the role, I would be pleased to hear from you. Meetings are the first Monday evening (7 – 9) of each month.

Upcoming Club Dates

Here are some dates to keep in mind that are coming up at KMBC which will be a great way to stay in touch with club members and invite new ones to come along:

  • Ladies Gala Day:  November 27th
  • Club Christmas Dinner: December 15th
  • A Day In The Gardens on March 3rd 2024

Please talk about our Ladies Barbie Bowls Day tournament this November with other clubs so they can put together a team and come to see what a great tournament KMBC holds.

Help Needed

Is anyone (or two) available to help with food service at Thursday night owls for the next 3-4 weeks while Joan Young is recovering from shoulder surgery. Please contact Anne O’Dea (0407797401) if you’re able to help. You’d be needed from 6pm - 8pm and it involves serving the sausage sizzle. If there are lots of volunteers, you’ll only be needed once!

Thanks - Anne O'Dea

State Triples

Congratulations to Bill Lewis, Ryan Wilkins and David Freeman for making it into the finals to be held in April 2024. What a great achevement!

Happy Hour

Don't forget that happy hour takes place at the club each and every Friday night and it's a great way to socialise with other members of the KMBC family.

Sponsorship Display Screen

It would be appreciative for ALL events at the club that the inside duty team make sure that the screen is on as part of the set up duties. It is imperative we display our sponsors names at ALL events as this is the only medium we have for continuous exposure and advertising to support their businesses. Appreciate everybody's support on this matter.

Thanks heaps, Nev Y

Sponsors

Please remember that when you visit one of our club sponsors to let them know you are from the KMBC so they know their sponsorship is worthwhile. Sponsors play a vital role in the future of our club so please be sure to support them whenever you can. Anyone who has an idea about a potential sponsor please approach anyone on the Committee to share your ideas.
