Message From the President

Graham Hunt's Funeral

Family and friends of Graham are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Tuesday 24th October at 4pm in the Main Chapel of Berry’s Funeral Home 204 Magill Road, Norwood.

Flooding on A Green

A green flooded on Monday and it’s now the weekend! Ulli, Peter and Mike were at the club first thing hoping to fix the problem quickly which unfortunately hasn’t happened. Ulli and Peter have been at the club either waiting for a plumber or being there with a plumber for most of the week. Concrete has been dug up; repairs attempted without success. The saga continues on Monday when the plumber returns. I spoke to Ulli and Peter on Friday evening as they were getting ready to go home absolutely exhausted after spending so much time at the club.

I cannot express my gratitude enough for the work and dedication of Ulli, Peter and Mike in continually ensuring our greens are maintained in premium condition. There are many occasions where they go above and beyond what many volunteers are prepared to do.

Not only will the plumber return but A and B green will be closed from midday on Monday for line marking.

Ladies Gala Day November 27 Promote, Promote, Promote We Need Entries

There is a month before the Tournament and disappointingly very few entries have been received including from the women members of our club. Thank you to the four teams that have nominated but to the other ladies come on get behind the tournament, get together and enter a team!!!

The men are ready to go with organising and running the day. The lack of interest is a concern both for the club and the future of a tournament dedicated to women. We don’t want to cancel due to lack of interest which in turn jeopardises future sponsorship support.

To all members this is a call to action to support the tournament by promoting widely and encouraging entries. We need at least another 13 to 14 teams to make it viable.

Results

The Kensi Kookaburras have been off to a positive start for the season. Thank you again to those players who have willingly filled teams and saved us from having to forfeit.

Wednesday

  • Division 2 vs Adelaide. A strong win 125 to 75.
  • Division 3 vs Sturt. A convincing win 119 to 95.
  • Division 4 vs Hope Valley. The team was defeated 44 to 60, however came away with 2 valuable points.

Thursday

  • Division 1 vs Grange. A tight match which we won 57 to 49.
  • Division 2 vs Gawler ended in a draw 57 all. A great result for our newly minted Division 2 team against Gawler who was in Division 1 last year.

Saturday

  • Division 3 vs Walkerville a close match won 77 to 70.
  • Division 4 vs Millswood won 77 to 73 in a tightly contested match.
  • Division 5 vs Millswood. A grand final rematch KMBC won 76 to 69.
  • Division 6 vs Adelaide High Old Scholars defeated 37 to 72.
  • Division 7 vs Trinity Gardens won 55 to 47. Thank you to those who filled in, a great result.

Afternoon Teas

As previously stated, afternoon teas have absorbed a great deal of time. With the assistance of Heather Howard who came in last Saturday to evaluate the new workflow and was there again on Wednesday with Joan Young and Cecily Griffiths. There have been a few suggested changes and there may be more as the season progresses. I have included a link below to Pennant Day Responsibilities. There is a copy posted on the noticeboard outside the kitchen.

The major change is the recommendation that we continue with two volunteers to ease the workload and decrease the time spent cleaning.

Thank you to Anne O’Dea who has made a roster. The current roster is on the Ladies noticeboard. We are now asking for members to volunteer for afternoon teas to support those already on the roster. If you are already on the roster and prepared to be available more frequently that would also be appreciated.

Please let Anne know by text, phone call or email. Anne’s contact details are email: afodea@yahoo.com.au or phone: 0407797401.

Shades Replacement Update

Planning approval has been granted to replace the shades at the northern end of A green and the southern end of B green. However, we are waiting for building consent and development approval. One step at a time. Further updates will be included as they become available.

Christmas Raffle 2023

Sales of raffle tickets is progressing well. Tennis section has come onboard and sold a few books thanks to Neil Jones which is much appreciated. Keep bringing in sold books. If you have partially sold books and can’t sell any more, please return them to Neville for redistribution. Please place books with money into an envelope and put into the blue box.

Christmas Raffle Books

I would like to thank ALL members who have taken up support for the selling of tickets for this year’s Christmas Raffle. There are now seven weeks selling time in hand and many opportunities over that period to sell tickets. I would like to finalize the return of ALL books and monies by December 5th, 2023. If anybody has sold their books please return them to me when you see me at the club. I have already received back 12 books (ie $1200) so greatly appreciated.
