Vale Aristide Carmine Centrella (AKA Harry)

The flag was at half-mast during Wednesday’s games for another of our wonderful members and renowned character. Harry passed away peacefully on February 21 aged 92.

Those of us who knew him loved him for his very honest, unique perspective and commentary on the game of bowls. He and the late Peter Jenkins could often be heard exchanging colourful banter encouraging each other to play better.

On behalf of the members of Kensington Marryatville Bowling Club, I extend condolences to Harry’s wife Maria and their family.

His funeral Liturgy will be celebrated in the Wattle 1 Chapel, Enfield Memorial Park, Browning Street Clearview on Tuesday March 3 commencing at 10.30am.

Invictus Australia Bowls Tri-Series (Mar 6)

Come down and support serving and ex-serving veterans as they learn the artful skills of bowls at KMBC this Friday 06 Mar.

Invictus Australia help connect the power of community sport with the veteran community, allowing them to come together at local events, reconnect with people and supporting one another's wellbeing.

Thanks to the power and support of Invictus Australia, there is an ADF veteran, Dave Miln, (Royal Aust Navy) participating in the Para-Olympics in the Bi-Athlon (Cross-country skiing and shooting).
This veteran lost his legs while saving his family from a snow plough whilst posted overseas.

So come down, offer encouragement and you might just meet some amazing people.

Club Championship (Finals - Mar 13)

The 2025/2026 club championship finals will be held on Friday 13 March from 1pm. ALL finalists in ALL events are invited (encouraged) to schedule their final match on Friday afternoon. You can arrange with your opposition for a time at your convenience. If it is a singles game, please arrange your own marker. I will put a sheet on the board in the clubroom for you to indicate the time of your match. This is encouraged so that your fans can come and support you and enjoy an afternoon of great bowling.

If you're in more than one final, OR cannot play your match on the Friday afternoon, please arrange for your match to be played BEFORE the 13th March. All matches must be complete on or before the 13th March. Please indicate on the sheet (as mentioned above) the day and time you will be playing your finals match. This will allow fans to come and support you.

The bar will be open form 1pm, and mid-afternoon snacks will be provided. A spectator’s sheet will be posted on the white board. Please put your name on the list to indicate your attendance on Friday 13th to assist with catering. Looking forward to a great finals day!!

KMBC Volunteer of the Year 2025/26 (Mar 20)

Please note that nominations close March 20. The selection committee will be meeting at this time to select the winner.

The time has come to start thinking about and nominating who you think is worthy of being recognised as the 2025/26 KMBC Volunteer of the Year. The nominees will be reviewed by a special select committee, with the finalists being recognized, and the winner being announced at the end of season club dinner and presentation night. There are printed versions of the nomination form available in the clubhouse on the noticeboard (between the kitchen and the TV).

Eligibility:

Volunteering is time willingly given for the common good and without financial gain. The KMBC Volunteer of the Year award acknowledges a significant contribution at the local KMBC community level.

  • Has made a significant contribution to the Kensington-Marryatville Bowls Club community and organisation that made an improvement to the club and/or for its members.
  • Provided ongoing commitment and dedication to volunteering over a length of time.
  • No minimum years of service required
  • Be a member (Full or Associate) of the KMBC.

Nominations:

Nominations can be made by any paid-up member (Pennant or Associate). Forms can be dropped into the blue box or handed to a Committee member representative.

  • Nominations require a descriptive paragraph to highlight why the nominator believes the member is worthy of being nominated.
  • The nominator may be required to provide further information as to why they submitted the person’s name for recognition.

A Day in the Gardens (Mar 16)

Thank you to many of our club members who have registered for our "A Day in the Gardens'" tournament on March 16. We have 15 Kensi teams participating, with two other members in "hybrid" (mixed club) teams.

A particularly big thank you to 5 club teams who have already paid their rego fee of $90. It would be great if the other 10 club teams could prepay their rego fees too. Having some money in the bank will provide the tournament committee with some working capital to start ordering food and organise cash prizes. Early payment will also take pressure off the registration volunteers on the tournament day. The bank transfer details, as stated on the tournament flyer are:

  • BSB 105141, Account 038722540, Reference - DITG + skipper or contact player's name.

Helpers Needed (Mar 22)

There will be a "Day after the Wedding" function at our club for 80-100 people on Sunday 22 March between 1 and 7pm. It anticipated that there may be as many as 50 bowling from 2:30 to 4:30.

The club will desperately need at 4-6 helpers on the day to coordinate and help those post-party goers to learn the art of lawn bowls! Split shifts to set-up and pack up the bowls would be available if volunteers can only attend for a short period.

  • Speak to Ken Watson or Pat Lee for further information.

Happy Hour

Happy Hour is on at the club again this Friday at 5.30pm.
