President's Message
Ladies Gala Day:
On Monday November 24 the club went back to the 70s for our annual Ladies Gala Day. The weather was warmer than we have been used to with a few of us feeling the heat but as the stoic bowlers we are we played on. It was a wonderful day due to the many months of work by the tournament committee led by Director Allan Wilkins. As always it takes many willing volunteers to make a successful event happen. Thank you to everyone else who volunteered to make the day not only possible but a resounding success.
A group were in on Sunday afternoon to set up, rinks were ready early on Monday, the bar was open early ready for a few performance enhancing drinks before the games and the kitchen crew was on duty feeding the masses during the day. Peter G was very grateful to his kitchen crew for their fantastic work. A special mention to the ladies in the kitchen who worked tirelessly from 8.30am until 5pm with very little time out. Now we begin to prepare for next year!!!.
Notes from the Catering Coordinator (Peter Glazbrook):
Peter Glazbrook wishes to thank the kitchen crew for their fantastic work and in particular the ladies who worked tirelessly from 8.30am until 5pm with very little time out during the day. (Peter Glazbrook).
Notes from the Tournament Director (Allan Wilkins):
Allan would like to thank all club members, bowlers and volunteer helpers who participated in the Gala Day. It was great to see several night owl bowlers participate in our club event. It was an unusually hot and humid day which made bowling conditions physically challenging for some, but everyone worked through the conditions to finish all events and thank you for achieving that.
Many of our members made great efforts to front up wearing 1970's gear whiched added to create the fun atmosphere for the day, Although most have already been thanked, there were four people who worked hard to make a significant contribution to making the day a success and my apologise for not thanking them publicly at the end of the day and they were the four people on the top desk who collectively checked teams in, collected fees, entered and checked game results and helped organise the awarding of prizes.
A huge thank you to Ross Turner, Colin Tutty, Gary Byron and Ken Watson.

Club Hires
The following are a list of club hires where social bowls has been requested and is expected to occur. If hirers request social bowls, bowls club members are expected to provide assistance. Where helpers have been requested, the following duties are required to ensure a successful day.
What is expected of you includes:
- Help with the set up the greens. This involves placing mats, jacks etc. out for the number of rinks required, dependent on the numbers.
- Provide assistance, if required, to participants to select the correct size bowl, demonstrate how to hold the bowl correctly, the bias etc, as well as the basic delivery method.
- Provide supervision, particularly where children are involved, to ensure no damage to the greens from dropping or dumping of the bowls occurs.
- Assist with the pack up of the bowls, mats, jacks etc. at the completion of the hire. Provide guidance to the hirers of where rubbish goes, cleaning products are located etc. to assist and ensure the hirers are able to clean up after themselves at the end of the hire.
- You are encouraged to interact and make welcome the participants, particularly promoting the club and the opportunities we provide, like Tuesday and Thursday Night Owls, coaching etc. You never know where the next club member or champion might come from!
What is NOT expected of you includes:
- You are not expected to address or coordinate the group per se, BUT, see point 2 above.
- You are NOT expected to clean the clubhouse after a hire. That is the responsibility of the hirer. But, see point 4 above.
- Unless you have an RSA, and have been contacted by Ken Mason, you are not expected to help behind the bar.
If you are available to spare a couple of hours to provide this assistance, please contact myself or Ken Watson.

National Umpires Course
The club is keen to attract more members to become officials at games as markers, measurers and umpires, which eases the load on our current officials.
More importantly, we need to ensure that we have umpires present at home games each week rather than relying on visitors to provide umpires. Much of the training is available online with a short on green component required to complete the course. The flexibility of including online components means that more people who work during the week have access.
The club will provide reimbursement of expenses on provision of a receipt. The link for the course is below. To get started follow the log-in directions.
Night Owls (Dec 2)
The weather is looking dryer for Tuesday but still cool @ 22 degrees during the day and 10 degrees at night, so bring something warm to wear for the night, as we know! Just some notices:
- Please try and get your names down before Monday night, including whether you would like a meal. That's not to say you can't let me know on Tuesday, but I swing past the club at 5pm to check the numbers and to let Ngaire and the ladies running the kitchen know the number of meals required, that's all.
- This week will be my last for the year. Allan Wilkins has kindly offered to run Night Owls for me until the Christmas break. I've indicated that Night Owls will continue until 16 Dec, but Allan will be responsible for the final decision. I'll be asking on Tuesday night for expected numbers for both 09 and 16 Dec, as we will need time to arrange a bar person, plus when to have our Christmas wrap-up party dinner etc.
- For those members with Christmas Raffle tickets, please bring them with you on Tuesday night as we need to start getting the money and stubs in to Pip Malone ready for the draw on 12 Dec. You might even be able to sell them on Tuesday night to those who haven't bought any as yet.
- The club Christmas dinner will be on 12 Dec. The table booking sheet is over by the notice board, along with the payment details. $45pp for a 3-course meal and a lot of fun! Definitely worth coming along for a great night.
- Thank you for your patience the last few weeks regarding the start times. We've had 8 new people join us this year, plus getting the organisation of the draw is taking time for me to work out, but I'm getting the hang of it! Thank you.
- Thank you to all those who continue to help out on the night, whether it's setting up, packing up, in the kitchen or donating prizes, it all contributes to ensuring a successful night and doesn't go unnoticed.
See you Tuesday night! - Pat Lee.
Christmas Raffle (Dec 12)
Please ensure all books and money are returned to Pip by Friday 5 December 2025. The raffle will be drawn at our Christmas Dinner on Friday 12 December 2025. The books and money can be placed in an envelope and put in the Blue Box on the bench near the kitchen door at the clubhouse.
If you have any appropriate gifts to donate for the Christmas Baskets, please leave them at the Club as we will be making up the baskets early next week. Pip has sold all of her tickets and has the money from a woman wishing to purchase 4 tickets, so if anyone has 4 tickets available please approach Pip. Thank you.
- Visit our Kensi Christmas Raffle page for more information.
Christmas Dinner (Dec 12)
The booking sheet is now in the clubhouse and payment is required on booking to secure your place. We also require your preference as to entree and dessert and whether you require a vegan meal. Pip will place a sheet next to the booking sheet for you to nominate your preference. This is important as otherwise you will just receive the meal dropped to you which may not be your choice.
The dinner will be preceded by the drawing of the Christmas Raffle at 6.30pm and as always we hope to have a few surprises. Music will be provided by our "in-house" DJ and dancing is required this year. The menu has been posted on our Facebook Page and is also on the Website.
- Visit our Kensi Christmas Dinner page for more information.
Friday Night Happy Hour and Dinner
This week we have the monthly Members Draw with a Jackpot of $500. If your name is drawn you will need to be present to claim the money, otherwise it will jackpot by a further $100 for the following draw. Make sure you also bring some cash for the raffle. We have a special guest speaker - Justine Reynolds from Woodleigh Hills.
- Happy Hour at 5.30pm.
- Members Draw 6.30pm.
- Meals served between 6 & 8pm.
Reminder — get your name on the list in the clubrooms if you would like a meal or alternatively, give Pip a ring and she will add your name. Don't forget to invite your neighbors, family and friends to join us. Meals are bistro-style, pay when you order at the counter on the night. Although we prefer to know how many are coming, walk-ins will be accommodated. Take-away meals are also available.
- Visit our Fun Feast Fridays at Kensi Club page for the menu.
Happy Hour
Happy Hour is on at the club again this Friday at 5.30pm.
