Vale Douglas Young
It is with sadness I announce that Doug Young passed away peacefully at home in the early hours of Saturday after a short health battle. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Doug was a wonderful member of the club for many years as a bowler, team manager, chair of selectors, statistician, mentor to new pennant players and BBQ chef at Night Owls. Being the entrepreneur he was, he was very successful at recruiting new pennant players from our Night Owls competition. I was one of them. There are too many instances to recall where Doug tirelessly volunteered his time to the club he loved. His dedication and work saw him being conferred with honorary Life Membership in 2024.
On reflection, there are times when we think someone will be around forever. Doug was one of those people. I convey my sincere condolences to his family as I’m sure many of you have already done so.
May he now rest in peace.
Pennant Results
This week saw the beginning of the Pennant season. Unfortunately, with so many players unavailable, the Division 7 side could not be filled, and so we had a forfeit for the first time in many years.]
As they say the show must go on. Four sides played today with the resolve you would expect from the Kensi Kookaburras. Congratulations to everyone on great results for the first game.
Saturday:
- Division 2 vs Marion at Marion. Won 74 to 60.
- Division 4 vs Hawthorn at home. Won 82 to 77.
- Division 5 vs Sturt at home. Won 80 to 77.
- Division 6 vs Beaumont at Beaumont. Defeated 54 to 49.
- Division 7 vs Walkerville at home. Forfeited due to lack of players unavailable.

KMBC Ladies Gala Day (Nov 24)
Our most enjoyable annual Ladies Gala Day is only just over 6 weeks away, but the participation response from our club members so far, has been minimal. Eight teams have indicated their intention to participate with three of those teams coming from other clubs. We are hoping for at least 10 Kensi ladies’ teams.
So how about it ladies? It’s time to get organised now, get your teams listed on the registration sheet in the clubhouse and let me know that you are playing. We are aiming for at least 32 teams in total, so we have a long way to go! Early registration will also be a great planning help the tournament committee.
Why should you register for this tournament? Our ladies’ tournaments have achieved a great reputation as a fun filled day of bowling with very generous bowling and raffle prizes plus a delicious two-course lunch and pre- and post-game snacks. Each year’s theme idea also adds to the fun of the event. There is a prize of $150 for the best theme dressed team.
So ladies, please write your team player names on the registration sheet in the clubhouse, or you can simply text them to me. Then you can start planning your 70’s outfits!
