Message from the President

Last Friday saw the reintroduction of meals after an absence of several months. The large number of people who attended was amazing and indicated strongly that this is something members, families, friends and locals value. The à la carte menu provided a range of foods from which to choose at very reasonable prices. For those of you not going to football next Friday night, why not come to the club, have a meal and watch the game? The menu looks even better than last week.

New Life Members

Congratulations to our newest Honorary Life members, Ken Watson, Phillip Grant-Allan and Ulli Kruse who were endorsed at the recent AGM. Each has made significant contributions to the club, albeit in a variety of ways.

Renovation

There are no photos this week due to current work not being as visible. However, be reassured that things are continuing to move ahead. Electricians have been wiring and rewiring, air conditioning is progressing with wiring being done, the roof continues to receive TLC with work this week attending to repairs to tiles cracks and leaks including capping.

As the air-conditioning to the main clubhouse nears completion, the 2 gas wall heaters will be decommissioned in due course.  If you wish to buy 1 or 2 please let Peter Glazbrook know.  The purchaser will be responsible for taking them away and arranging their own gas fitter to install them.

Greens A & B Closed Sept 8

Weather permitting, spraying of both greens will occur. BOTH will be closed after 3 pm for the rest of the day.

The Blue Book

This book is a vital communication tool for those of you who will be unavailable for games during the pennant season. If you have plans that coincide with a pennant game put you name into the book under the date. This helps selectors’ forward planning. Where is the blue book? Sitting by the blue box.

Norwood International High School

The club will be working with students from NIHS again in September as part of their Year 10 Lifestyle and Health class. Thank you in advance to those of you who have offered to assist. There will be 3 classes over 4 weeks involved: one each on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Trial games and preseason practice may overlap with some of the sessions on Wednesday.

  • Tuesday, September 9, 16 and 23 (2.05pm – 3.05pm)
  • Wednesday, September 10, 17 and 24 (12.05pm – 1.05pm)
  • Thursday, September 11, 18 and 25 (2.05pm – 3.05pm)

Please make the students welcome. They are tomorrow’s bowlers.

Wanted - Coordinator for Tuesday Night Owls

In last week’s newsletter I announced that Allan Wilkins would continue as the coordinator. This is not correct and so the club is seeking a willing person to coordinate the Tuesday Night program. There are people willing to assist with raffles, food and set up. Allan has offered his support to a new person as he willingly did on Thursdays during winter.

Membership

Membership subs were due on August 31. There are members who have indicated their availability to play that haven’t paid so please do so as a matter of importance. If there are issues with this, please contact Phil McBride or Tania Lewis.
Remember when following the instructions for payment please include your name on the receipt to facilitate accurate recording. Remember NO PAY, NO PLAY.  The attached file provides details as to payment.

Friday Night Happy Hour and Dinner (Sept 12)

Kim Webster's name was drawn in the Members Draw on Friday and as he was not present, the jackpot next month increases to $300.  Remember, you need to be there on the night to collect.
Please join us for our regular Friday night dinner this week. The meals are Bistro Style with food being served between 6pm and 8pm. Please put your name on the list by Wednesday if you are ordering a meal or let Pip Malone know, and she will add your name to the list.
