Message from the President

Renovation Works

Work is progressing positively in the background to ensure the club is ready for season 25/26. Renovations to the downstairs toilets, change rooms and office are, on the other hand, very noticeable and progressing well. Preseason training and trials are detailed below.

Greens

The greens are in great shape, looking immaculate and playing well thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers who make time on Wednesday from 1pm.

Winter Bowls

The end of this month will see the end of the very successful and enjoyable Winter Social Bowls for another season as we segway into pennant practice and preseason trials.

Membership

Phil and Tania are busy finalising members for the upcoming season. If there is anyone wanting to play, or you know who wants to join, please contact Phil or Tania. Their details will be included later in the newsletter along with payment details for membership renewal.

Coaching

Results of the member survey regarding coaching and performance is continuing to be discussed by the committee. Tuesday morning practice was viewed positively and therefore will continue. I’m pleased to announce that Greg Miller has agreed to continue as Coaching Coordinator for the upcoming season. There will be an afternoon alternative for those who work. Currently, we are thinking that it will be Tuesday, but there will be more details soon. Members are encouraged to contact coaches for individual or smaller group sessions. Coaches are Greg Miller, Ken Watson and Alan Lambert.

Pre Season

Please put the dates in your calendars.

Season Opening Dinner

This will be Friday, September 19 at the club

Training

Pennant training begins on Tuesday, September 2 at 9am. People interested in playing pennants but still thinking about it are most welcome to come along. You will be notified of a time for an afternoon session shortly.

Preseason Trials

  • September 13, Saturday vs Walkerville @TBD
  • September 17, Wednesday vs Sturt @Sturt
  • September 20, Saturday vs McLaren Vale @McLaren Vale
  • October 4, Saturday vs Clarence Gardens @Clarence Gardens
  • October 8, Wednesday vs Clarence Gardens @Clarence Gardens

Trials for Thursday are currently being finalised. Please advise the matches you will be available for by adding your name to the availability lists.

Renovation Works Update

As expected, there have been significant issues relating to how the clubhouse was built. It requires providing additional structural steel and timber support for the roof design. Current work involves

  • Preparing the underfloor for the plumbing
  • Air conditioning has made reasonable progress but is hindered by a steel beam that goes the full width of the clubhouse when it was thought it did not go the full distance.
  • The entrance ceiling has been raised by 200mm to provide a more open feeling on entry.
  • The foyer entrance has been widened to 1500mm due to brickwork that was inadequate in structure.

Our next meeting is 11 August, by which time we would like to finalise the prize list so that we can get the ball rolling. Thank you.

Fundraiser for Breast Cancer Trials

Sarah Lee was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in 2017. Through the help and amazing research done by Breast Cancer Trials, Sarah's cancer is currently stable, allowing her to continue living her life to the fullest. Sarah's determination to help others and to give back to those who have helped her along the way has Sarah taking on the challenge of hiking a 100km portion of the 800km-long Camino Way in Spain in September! Her fundraising target is $3,500 which goes to Breast Cancer Trials.

Please join Sarah and Pat Lee for a fun and enjoyable night as we seek to find the brainiest of them all! Bring your own snacks, nibbles etc, but NO BYO alcohol please!

  • What: Hiking For Hope Quiz Night - Tables of 6!
  • When: 09 Aug @6.30 for 7pm start
  • Where: Beaumont Bowls Club, 71 Devereux Rd, Linden Park.

We have approached Beaumont to host only due to the uncertainty of what impact the renovations will have on the suitability of KMBC.

Happy Hour

Happy Hour is on at the club again this Friday at 5.30pm. Leon Klau's number was drawn last week but, unfortunately, he was not in attendance to collect the jackpot of $100. The next draw will be the first Friday in September with a jackpot of $200. Looking forward to seeing you, your family and friends at our Happy Hours.
