Vale Ira John Pendrigh

John passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24, aged 94. John was a dearly loved member of the club and President from 2005 until 2008. On behalf of the club, I send condolences to his wife Susan, children Eira and Lynn and their families. As announced in “The Advertiser” on Saturday, May 31, there will be a private cremation.

Club News

Since the last newsletter in May many members have been taking time to enjoy some R & R whether it’s travel, spending time with family and friends or playing social bowls.

Club Renovations

Meanwhile club life keeps rolling along quietly. A group has cleared the office and locker rooms in preparation for renovations. A hiccup in the renovation continues to be the slow process in notification of the grant application. Notification was due on May 31, but that did not occur. Naturally, the bowls section committee is concerned about the disruption to the upcoming season and there is an extensive delay in the work. The committee continues to work closely with the Project Manager and the KGBTC board regarding progressing the work. We will keep members informed as further communication comes to hand.

Winter Bowls

Winter Social Bowls are well and truly underway with numbers consistently high. Once again, it’s fantastic to see many bowlers from other clubs joining us. Kim Draper is managing Thursday with assistance from John Roberts and Rob Holmes. David Freeman, Ryan Wilkins and Bill Lewis are running Saturday games. Social Bowls are in good hands and being well patronized. Thank you in advance to Peter Douglas who has agreed to run Saturday Social Bowls while David, Ryan and Bill are away.

Australian Open

The Australian Open is a week away and, on behalf of the club, I wish all the best to the following players from the club in their matches as the Kookaburras fly north to do us proud:

  • Ryan Wilkins
  • Bill Lewis
  • David Freeman
  • Tony Spriggs
  • Greg Miller
  • Katie Gunning

Surveys

2025/26 KMBC Bowls Intention Survey

The committee would appreciate current members completing the first seeking your intention regarding bowling in season 25/26 KMBC including updating records if they have changed.

2025/26 Pennant Bowls Season Review of Coaching and Performance

At the beginning of the 2024/25 Pennant Bowls season, the Bowls Committee formulated a list of requirements and objectives to be actioned with a view to the implementation of a co-ordinated coaching plan for the Club. The plan was discussed with the coaching panel prior to the commencement of season 24/25 and actions agreed.

The performance of the Club in the Pennants Season was overall with some exceptions, poor. Two sides were relegated and another two were close to being relegated. This was not good enough and action to identify the reasons for this situation and to find a way to achieve significant improvements for the 2025/26 Season is needed.

During the season focus and effort was supportive of improvement to individual performance, which is undeniably positive but not enough. A sense of belonging as part of a team, developing rapport among players is significant in creating success.

Thinking of Henry Ford and Albert Einstein. The quote frequently attributed to them "If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got" highlights the importance of changing behaviours and approaches to achieve different outcomes. Therefore, adopting the same course again and expecting a different outcome would not be a reasonable approach to resolving the problem.

The committee seeks honest and detailed feedback from each pennant player to the questions in assisting to find ways to create change. There are 3 questions which can be accessed via the link below. There are 2 sections, Coaching feedback and Bowls Teams Performance feedback.

Synthetic Greens Maintenance

We are in the process of finalising volunteer and contract work. In the meantime, Rob Holmes is battling the issue of preparing the greens on Thursday and Saturday due to the annual issue of leaves and rubbish from the street trees on the Parade. Please contact Rob on 0414 553 209 to assist. He may then feel fit enough to enjoy social bowls.
