Annual General Meeting (May 9)
Message from the President:
The Annual General Meeting is this Friday, 9 May 2025 beginning at 6pm.
At the recent end of season dinner, I thanked all who volunteered in some way or another to keep our club operating. I thanked David Freeman for his work as Pennant Bowls Manager as he is not re-nominating for the committee. As we are nearing the AGM I am acknowledging and thanking each committee member for their untiring work in devoting many hours to keep the club functioning well.
Continuity of committee members has not only been encouraging but has strengthened our work and realised increased efficiencies in what is possible to achieve. It takes time to get to know each other to develop a feeling of comfort. This enabled us to transition into the next season seamlessly allowing work to keep moving ahead. I’m not denying that there is always work to be done but I believe we are curating an environment that stimulates growth, improves facilities, develops coherence and sense of place where members feel empowered and belong.
While acknowledging that continuity underpins stability, increases confidence and certainty change is both inevitable and necessary. To remain viable and keep the club evolving positively into the future new ideas, fresh perspectives and approaches are crucial. At last year’s AGM we welcomed Philippa Malone as secretary, Colin Tutty as Treasurer and Georgia Kolberg as a committee member. Each has brought new energy and commitment to the club. I look forward to them continuing in season 2025/26.
Looking at nominations, which closed on Friday, there have been nine for seven general committee positions. Such strong interest in the committee is a wonderful indicator that as a club we are moving in the right direction. Nominations for the seven committee positions are:
- Nevile Yeates
- Tania Lewis
- Oliver Fraatz
- Anne O’Dea
- Georgia Kolberg
- Phil McBride
- Kevin Carney
- Mark McLennan
- Derek Miller
I’m looking forward to seeing many of you at the meeting to cast your vote to elect a committee that will continue to work positively for you. Remember this is your club.

Raffle and Members Draw:
At the conclusion of the meeting, please stay on as there will be a raffle and MEMBERS DRAW with a jackpot of $100. Rod Squire won the last draw at the end of season dinner.
Complementary Wine Tasting:
Justin Reilly of Reilly’s Wines, a relatively new sponsor, will be at the club to provide a wine tasting for members after the formal proceedings are completed. Neville Yeates has arranged platters to accompany the tasting.
Champion of Champions Wrap
Ulli started the day by spending time preparing A green. The greens ran exceptionally well. Due to forfeits we had less than expected number of players. 8 rinks to 5.
Alan did an excellent job of umpiring measuring and starting each round with his usual flair. The markers did our club proud with their usual efficiency, Tania looked after Bowlslink results, John B and his team took care of catering and Ken W handled the bar.
When you run an event where it appears nothing is happening then you know all has gone well!
Peter Canala from Walkerville was successful and plays off for State Champion at Hawthorn Sunday May 4th.
