Volunteer Award
Current Vice President Pat Lee introduced a Volunteer of the Year award whereby members had the opportunity to nominate volunteers at the club. Those who were nominated were recognized for their contribution at the End of Season dinner. Congratulations to Ulli Kruse, Tania Lewis, Ken Mason, Joan Young, Peter Glazbrook and Neville Yeates.
The award for this year went to Neville Yeates for his work securing sponsorship for the club. Sponsors are gold to any club and Neville’s work has increased the number to 29 with more in the pipeline. When he took over as club sponsor manager, he encouraged 4 of the original sponsors to remain and they have become some of our most valued.
Pat has forwarded Neville’s nomination to Bowls SA to be considered as Volunteer of the Year.
Garage Sale
Thank you to Cecily Griffiths, who organized and managed the recent garage sale which raised a valuable $1800 for the club. Thank you also to everyone who helped before, during and after the sale and to those who donated goods.
Clubhouse Renovation
Members are advised of the following:
- Friday, May 2nd: All lockers must be emptied in preparation for the renovation.
- Monday, May 5th: it is proposed to shift the social bowls to the northern side of the clubhouse after the ladies have finished indoor bowls practice approx 11am.
- Wednesday, May 7th: hopefully dispose of the lockers and the metal cupboard in the office.
Some site work may commence in the middle of May. I intend as much as possible to keep you informed of progress on the project. The work involved is independent of the results of the grant application.

Marryatville Trust Update
The Trust was established in 1995 after the sale of the Marryatville Bowling Club premises. This money has been held in trust, invested wisely, and made available for improvements for the Bowling Club Section of the Kensington Gardens Bowling and Tennis Club.
This year has seen further development to our bowling facilities following the establishment of our new greens. The new shades were organised by our Facilities Committee and the Trust paid the $70,000 costs. Every member (85 this year) has their subs reduced by $230 [actual cost is $440 per year]. New members [22 this year] only pay $100 plus we provide a free club shirt. The Trust covered this total membership support of $28,064.
We support our Club Tournaments and this year put $6000 towards their success. They are excellent tournaments and give our club positive recognition within the bowling community. The Trust also provides funds for our Club Coach, Greg Miller, to help cover his expenses. We feel it is money well spent as he does a wonderful job.
This winter will see a $270,000 upgrade to our Toilet/Office area, which is particularly exciting. The Trust has committed $220,000 in funds to support this project. We believe that it is essential and will give our progressive club a wonderful lift.
Vacancies:
Due to retirements we have two vacancies on the Trust for Directors. This is an important support for our Bowling Section which entails monthly meetings [10 per year].
If you would like to help our club out by being a Director on the Trust, please contact Russell Miller [Chair]. Other directors of the Trust are Eleanor Bourchier, Heather Lynch, Brian Dew and Leon Klau. They would be pleased to talk to you about the role of the Trust. Enjoy the Winter everyone.

Ladies Indoor Carpet Bowls
Calling all ladies interested in playing indoor carpet bowls. For those who haven’t played this before, this is an enjoyable game, especially during the winter months.
It will not spoil your “big” bowls. Most of the ladies in the Association play both lawn bowls and indoor bowls. You can do both. Pennant games begin on Tuesday 29th April. Tuesday Indoor where it is warm and Thursday outdoors, weather permitting.
Please let me know if you wish to play so I can register your name. If you intend to go on holidays for some of the winter, don’t worry, we will have extra players. The first practice is on Tuesday 22nd April.
