Vale Alan Ferris
Alan was a much-loved associate member of the club for many years, friend to many social bowlers and Night Owl players. Sadly, Alan passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 17.
On behalf of the Kensington Marryatville Bowling Club, I offer condolences to Alan’s wife Gail their family and friends.

Bowls Season Opening Dinner (20 Sept)
On Friday night, over 100 people enjoyed the Opening of the Season Dinner. Now that is done, we are well and truly heading into the Pennant season. Wonderful that three Burnside Councillors attended and enjoyed the night. As an aside Jo Harvey has generously offered prizes for the Ladies Day Gala.
Ken Mason and his team of assistants were thanked on the night and once again their work was amazing in the kitchen and bar.

Super Challenge
We are looking for interested players to register for the Super Challenge event. Last year our Bronze team was successful winning the grand final against Willunga. The Club Super Challenge is a multi-discipline event played over several Sunday evenings at various metropolitan clubs during the bowls season. This year the competition will commence on Sunday 17 November, culminating in grand finals early April, depending on the number of teams entering and scheduling of matches.
The Club Super Challenge offers an opportunity for players to represent their club in a competitive competition, yet less “serious” environment than perhaps pennant bowls. Selection offers the chance for players to develop their skills in different disciplines. Clubs also benefit financially from participating, receiving money for hosting rounds as well as the $20,000* prize money on offer.
If you are interested, please forward your name to Peter Douglas ASAP as registration is due very soon.

Greens
Please remember that Monday is maintenance day for the greens in readiness for the week ahead. Currently all including C are running well, however if you find an issue the greens team would appreciate you speaking directly with them to find a resolution. Our artificial greens in particular have gained very positive comments by players from visiting clubs and we want to keep it that way.
On Thursday the Ladies teams played at Westlakes. From my perspective our C green is comparable so let’s keep using it more.

Pennant Day Responsibilities
As we move into pennants, I have included a link to Pennant Day Responsibilities for inside and outside rink duties.
The link includes Conditions of Play.
There have been a few changes to conditions regarding the reintroduction of the two-end trial prior to a match. Pennant day responsibilities are rotated during the year so that each rink takes a turn to set up and clean up.
When working on inside rink duty check kitchen supplies. Write any requiring replacement on the whiteboard that is in the kitchen – including tea, coffee, sugar, milk, cling wrap and alfoil. Bevan Carson has agreed to continue to purchase these goods.
Uniforms and Shoes
A reminder for current players and information for new players about our playing uniform. The information below has been lifted directly from Metropolitan Bowls Association Conditions of Play.
Attire / Dress Code
13.1 Uniforms - In accordance with the Bowls SA Uniform Policy, all players in a side must be dressed in the Pennant uniform of their Member Club and have the Bowls Australia logo on shirts, pants/skirts/hats in accordance with the Bowls Australia Logo Policy, except as described below in Rule 13.2. Bowls Australia approved footwear should be worn. They need to be flat soled without tread. Some Member Club uniforms differ between women and men. It is satisfactory if the uniform registered with Bowls SA for male and female club members, which carries the club’s name and logo and the Bowls Australia logo, are worn to establish a level of uniformity.
13.2 Lowest ranked Side/Combined Side - In a club’s lowest ranked side or in a Combined side, the Dress Code is satisfied if an Opposite Gender or Temporary player is wearing a plain white or pale coloured shirt or their own club approved uniform.
NOTE that KMBC pennant players have each been issued a playing shirt to wear at matches. Other apparel such as shorts, trousers or skirts are to be navy blue or ink blue NOT black, grey or royal blue and are available from bowls suppliers online or from Jack High. Jan Kruse manages apparel and has club jackets for sale as well as a range of second-hand good quality clothing. Club caps and bucket hats can be purchased at the bar.
