Ladies Gala Day Tournament

Entries are slow to come in. With only a few weeks before the day it is not looking great. I encourage all members to continue to support the day by promoting the event whenever you are at another club. Flyers are available from Brian Dew and there are some in the clubrooms as well. Also: You can direct anyone interested to our news article for the Ladies Gala Day Tournament where the flyer is also available.

Food Safety:

I will try to make this section as precise as possible because as a club that serves food that is either transported, unpacked and served or cooked on a BBQ we need to comply with Standard 3.2.2A. We already comply with Liquor Licensing Act 1997 and now there are requirements for food.

Recent changes to the Food Standards Code have implications for food businesses including clubs and retail outlets that prepare and serve food. From December 8, 2023, enforcement of the new requirements will commence.

For KGBTC the Eastern Health Authority (EHA) will oversee compliance. Favourable feedback has been received following an inspection by EHA of the club’s food preparation facilities. They are generally satisfactory with minor maintenance required to porous areas in the kitchen where the laminated strips do not cover all edges of drawers and cupboard doors due to wear and tear.

What action is required for the club to comply? KGBTC has been classified as category 2. Refer to the infographic for an overview of requirements.

Step 1
Any person involved in food handling needs the knowledge and skills to handle potentially dangerous food. I have confirmed with the Australian Institute of Food Safety and our local health authority that the free online course Do Food Safely is acceptable for food handlers. What this means is if you are volunteering in the kitchen at any time you will need to complete the online training. The link below will take you to the course. I have completed the course to find out what it was like. It didn’t take long and was straightforward. A certificate is generated immediately on successful completion.

I am happy to offer a session at the club on a Monday or Tuesday afternoon before the December deadline to assist anyone with completion of the training. Let me know and I will organise a date.

Step 2
The club will need to nominate Food Safety Supervisors. Ideally at least 2 would be preferable. Anyone interested please contact me. There is a mandatory requirement that all food handlers are supervised by a fully trained and qualified Food Safety Supervisor. Supervisors are to hold a Nationally accredited certificate from a Registered Training Organisation.

Step 3
Please forward a copy of your certificate to KMBC secretary Heather Garnett to be filed in club records.

Upcoming Club Dates

Here are some dates to keep in mind that are coming up at KMBC which will be a great way to stay in touch with club members and invite new ones to come along:

  • Ladies Gala Day:  November 27th
  • Club Christmas Dinner: December 15th
  • A Day In The Gardens on March 3rd 2024

Please talk about our Ladies Barbie Bowls Day tournament this November with other clubs so they can put together a team and come to see what a great tournament KMBC holds.

Christmas Raffle 2023 Update

Sales of raffle tickets is progressing well with the support of all those who received books . Keep bringing in sold books and any partially sold books if you think you are unable to sell. Please place all monies into an envelope and deposit into the blue box or hand direct to me. With just a little over 6 weeks left of selling time there is plenty of opportunity to have a successful selling period. Finalization of monies and books will be Friday December 8th. (1 week from our Christmas Dinner)

Appreciate all the support - Nev Y

Friday Night Meal

The next Friday night meal at the clubrooms will be Friday November 17th and the menu consists of Teriyaki Roast Chicken and vegetables followed by apple crumble. The cost is $20/person. Please book by the end of day November 15th on the sheet in the clubrooms. Helpers are team 1.

Club Christmas Dinner

The annual Christmas dinner will soon be upon us, being held on Friday December 15th this year. Bookings need to be made with Ken Mason along with table choice, menu selection and $20 deposit.  More details will be placed in next week's newsletter but get in early to be sure you don't miss out as it's a great social activity for the club and its members.

Help Needed

Is anyone (or two) available to help with food service at Thursday night owls for the next 3-4 weeks while Joan Young is recovering from shoulder surgery. Please contact Anne O’Dea (0407797401) if you’re able to help. You’d be needed from 6pm - 8pm and it involves serving the sausage sizzle. If there are lots of volunteers, you’ll only be needed once!

Thanks - Anne O'Dea

Sponsorship Update

As I cannot be at every club event can the persons responsible for kitchen set up please make sure the screen is on at all events. This would be greatly  appreciated as we give our sponsors continous exposure for their contributions..

Thanks - Nev Y

Happy Hour

Don't forget that happy hour takes place at the club each and every Friday night and it's a great way to socialise with other members of the KMBC family.

Sponsors

Please remember that when you visit one of our club sponsors to let them know you are from the KMBC so they know their sponsorship is worthwhile. Sponsors play a vital role in the future of our club so please be sure to support them whenever you can. Anyone who has an idea about a potential sponsor please approach anyone on the Committee to share your ideas.
